November 18, 2009—At the 36th Annual VEITH Symposium in New York City, Ekos Corporation (Bothell, WA) launched the EkoSonic MACH4e with rapid pulse modulation for the dissolution of vascular blood clots.

According to the company, the device can be used throughout the peripheral vasculature, including veins, arteries, inferior vena cava filters, and difficult-to-reach places (such as behind valves), and exposes clots to a greater drug uptake. The MACH4e uses 50% to 70% less lytic drug and shows no thrombus fracture, reducing the risk of distal embolism, with no hemolysis or damage to valves or vascular wall. The device demonstrated a high level of vessel patency. The MACH4e removes the thrombus more completely, possibly reducing the risk of postthrombotic syndrome, Ekos stated.
